UPDATE: Speaking of Mendes’ Beatles movies, Ringo Starr has accidentally confirmed that Barry Keoghan is going to be playing him, mentioning that the actor is currently ”taking drum lessons” in preparation for the role.
EARLIER: Harris Dickinson has been rumored for months to play John Lennon in Sam Mendes’ Beatles project. Dazed has now asked the actor about these rumors, and although there’s no confirmation coming out of him, there’s also no denial. He’s staying mum:
There’s nothing I can say about that; it might not be true, it might be, I don’t know... there’s a speculation culture.
The InSneider reported the Dickinson/Lennon rumors in June. So far, it sounds like Mendes, Apple and company are trying to hold back in announcing any casting. The film(s) are supposed to start production in mid-2025. Joseph Quinn is also speculated to play George Harrison.
So, to recap: Keoghan as Starr, Quinn as Harrison, and Dickinson as Lennon .. all that’s left is Paul McCartney which is a role none other than Paul Mescal is rumored to be circling. Mescal is set to film Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars” in early 2025, and by the looks of it, his schedule frees up the rest of the year to hop onboard the Mendes film’s production.
