Joseph Quinn to Star as George Harrison in Sam Mendes' ‘Beatles' Movies [Updated]

December 5, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Deadline is now confirming Quinn as Harrison.

So, it’s looking like our “Fab Four” will be Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison).

UPDATE: Looks like the earlier rumor was true. The InSneider is reporting that Joseph Quinn is in talks to star as George Harrison in one of the four Sam Mendes-directed ‘Beatles’ movies.

The Harrison film will be scripted Peter Straughan (“Conclave”). In fact, each one of the four biopics will have a different screenwriter attached in what is being described as a “Rashomon-style” set of films. There will be different perspectives of the same events.

As for the other writers involved, Krsyty Wilson Cairns (“1917”) is definitely writing one of them. If that name rings a bell, it’s because Cairns was mentioned many months back as the screenwriter Denis Villeneuve hired to write his still-in-development “Cleopatra.”

EARLIER: Sony and Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes’ ambitious plans to make four separate theatrical films, one on each of the members of The Beatles, is running full steam ahead. We might have a potential major development in casting.

Since this “exclusive” is coming from The Sun, let’s wait and see how accurate it is. With that said, they’re reporting that Joseph Quinn is set to play George Harrison in Mendes’ films. Quinn is best known for playing Eddie in “Stranger Things” — he’s also starring in two big upcoming films (“Gladiator II” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”).

There have been so many conflicting reports about Beatles casting that, until the cast is officially announced, there’s no need to get excited, or disappointed, by Quinn’s supposed involvement. A few months back, TheInSneider had heard rumors that Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Charlie Rowe (Harrison) were potentially being eyed for Fab Four roles.

Last we heard, Mendes confirmed that he was going to be busy making these four Beatles movies until “mid-2028.” He’s also mentioned how all four chapters might get theatrically released on the same day. Production List recently had a listing that set up a July 2025 shoot in London.
