Last month, Marvel Studios’ “Blade” had its November 7, 2025 date nixed from the release calendar. This in all likelihood meant that the film would not be going into production this month, which is a date that was being eyed all year.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige sat down with Brazilian genre outlet Omelete to give a wide-ranging interview discussing all sorts of Marvel projects, including the long-gestating “Blade.” Feige remains hopeful, saying that he is committed to getting a “Blade” movie out there:
“We’re committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him, and rest assured, whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re updated on what’s going on. But I can say that the character will make it to the MCU.”
Any rumors that “Blade” is not happening should be put to rest. There is no reason to doubt that Feige wouldn’t want to include this very popular character to his MCU.
There is currently no director attached to “Blade” — Yann Demange (“71”) recently exited the project. Two years ago, Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) had also called it quits. However, it had recently been reported that Marvel was eyeing a specific director, but not official announcement has so far been made.
The latest “Blade” draft, written by Eric Pearson, is still the current version being used if production does ever come to fruition. Pearson is, at least, the sixth writer to have taken a crack at the script after Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto.
What we do know is that “Blade” will have a budget of around $80M — chump change for a Marvel production — and will be rated R. It’s certainly not as risky a project as, say, “Thunderbolts” and “Captain America: Brave New World,” both of which are getting released next year with ballooned budgets to their names.
