Box-Office: ‘Terrifier 3' Aims For #1; ‘Folie à Deux' Predicted 70% Drop

October 10, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

It’s been confirmed that “Terrifier 3,” which only cost $2M, will have a 2500+ screens rollout this weekend. Variety’s estimates have it opening at $13M, but as I said yesterday, it will likely exceed that amount and could even flirt with $20M.

The report goes on to mention that “Joker: Folie à Deux” ticket sales for this coming weekend are abysmal with some box-office experts predicting a possible 70% to 75% decline — putting its second weekend tally at $9M to $11M.

With these projections, this means that “Terrifier 3” has the potential to pull off one of the biggest movie upsets of 2024. The third installment in the “Terrifier” franchise could be the #1 movie this weekend. The film is even topping Google Trends for movies, far surpassing ‘Joker 2,” “Venom: The Last Dance” and “Smile 2” in terms of traffic.

If that’s the case, and ‘Terrifier 3’ reaches #1 for the weekend, then it would become the lowest-costing box-office topper since 2009’s “Paranormal Activity” — that is if its reported $2M budget is accurate. The closest recent film to pull off this feat would be 2013’s “The Purge” which had a $3.5M budget.
