Joe Carnahan's ‘RIP,' Starring Ben Affleck & Matt Damon, Begins Filming

October 4, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Teyana Taylor and Sasha Calle have joined Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Joe Carnahan’s new crime thriller ‘RIP,’ which is being distributed by Netflix. Filming has officially begun on the film in Los Angeles.

While scheduling issues — mostly due to “The Accountant 2” needing extra bits of filming — have stalled Affleck’s next directorial effort, “Animals,” also starring Damon, he’s still managed to keep himself busy this fall with “RIP.”

We now have our first plot details for the film …

“RIP” follows a group of Miami cops whose trust begins to fray after they discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.

Netflix, who is also distributing “Animals,” recently hopped onboard “RIP” with plans to release it in 2025. Carnahan kickstarted the project by writing the script, and shopping it around, ultimately finding immense interest from Affleck and Damon.

As for Joe Carnahan, his 2002 indie breakout, “Narc,” which starred Ray Liotta and Jason Patric, is still his best film. I would put everything else he’s done in a separate category. He loves to make pulpy action movies and has built a decent following over the years.

Carnahan’s other directing credits include “The Grey,” “Copshop,” “Stretch,” “Smokin’ Aces,” “Boss Level,” and “The A-Team.”
