Edgar Wright's ‘The Running Man' Sets November 21, 2025 Release

October 4, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Katy O’Brian has joined the cast (via THR).

Edgar Wright’s ‘Running Man’ remake is set to shoot next month in London. Of course, as with all projects these days, Glen Powell will star as the lead. This afternoon, Paramount set up a theatrical release date for the film, November 22, 2025.

Wright has mentioned, many times, that if there ever was one movie that he’d love to remake then it would be 1987’s “The Running Man,” which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. According to The Wrap’s sources, with knowledge of the project, Wright’s movie “is a more faithful adaptation” of Stephen King’s novel.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in 2025, the story follows a man named Ben Richards while he participates in a deadly game show, called The Running Man, which sees him declared an enemy of the state and hunted by a ground of murderous hitmen

Wright is coming off the worst-reviewed film of his career: 2021’s “Last Night in Soho.” He still has a fairly large base of supporters, having helmed such films as “Baby Driver,” “The World’s End,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs The World” and “Shaun of the Dead.”
