I just got out of Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator.” The film is under strict embargo until Monday, but social media reactions are allowed. So, here goes:
Go in with medium expectations and you should be fine. I don’t think reviews will be glowing for this one, but it has enough beefy entertainment in it that I believe the reactions will be mostly positive.
“The Creator” stars John David Washington. A trailer for the film was released in the summer. Here’s the official synopsis, via IMDb:
As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind. As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.
The film is directed by Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One,” “Godzilla”), who co-wrote the script with Chris Weitz. The cast includes Washington, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, and Sturgill Simpson.
Netflix and Skydance Animation have also called it quits. The two sides announced Monday that they're ending the animated film deal struck back in 2023, framing it as a mutual decision.
