Quentin Tarantino took the bait and did a “Barbenheimer” double bill this weekend.
With both films having opened this past Friday, many ticket buyers did same-day viewings of the films — Tarantino was one of them.
A photograph posted on Twitter shows Tarantino with Roger Avary, his “Pulp Fiction” co-writer, walking across the street, after seeing “Oppenheimer,” to buy tickets for “Barbie.” His voyage was a short walk from the Westwood Village to the Regency Bruin Theatre.
The Twitter handle of Avary and Tarantino’s Video Archives podcast confirmed the description: “Yes our boys were out last night doing what they love to do the most together, seeing movies.”
Avary went on Twitter to describe the experience: “The Barbie showing in Westwood last night had such an amazing audience, literally cheering the movie. Many of them were larping. I haven’t seen that in a while, and it was awesome.”
No word yet on what Tarantino thought of both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” but we’d absolutely love to find out his reaction. He has no social media, so you can scratch off a twitter or Instagram reaction.
In 2019, Tarantino had mentioned that a third watch of Nolan’s “Dunkirk” catapulted it into the #2 slot on his “Best of the Decade” list:
It wasn’t until that third time where I was gauging it for [my best of the decade list], that I could finally see past the spectacle into the people, into the people of the story. I could finally see the forest for the trees. It’s a symphony, everything works.
Tarantino added that it was his favourite Nolan movie and that “Batman Begins” was #2 and “The Prestige” was #3.
