‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ is Testing Through the Roof, 2023 Release?

July 30, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Axel Foley, as played by Eddie Murphy in “Beverly Hills Cop”, is an iconic movie character from the 1980s.

Murphy/Foley are set to return in the upcoming fourth ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film, which is confirmed to be called “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley”. The movie, currently in post-production, was expected to hit Netflix in 2024.

“Was” being the key word since I’m hearing, due to the actors strike, and the endless amount release delays, Netflix is seriously thinking about releasing it this year.

Will they? It would be the smart move, especially since I’m hearing that the movie has been playing very well with test audiences. It test-screened in late April and again in the early summer.

No, really, I’m serious, the reactions have been through the roof and a late fall theatrical release shouldn’t be out of the question. Some are saying it’s the best ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ since the original.

Maybe Netflix won’t put it in theaters, but at least they’re thinking about it, and why wouldn’t they? This could mean millions in revenue for them. If theaters this fall might lack new content, then why not?

“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” is said to take a very nostalgic route, which makes sense, especially after the success of “Top Gun: Maverick” — the main actors are all back, the same score is used and the action is better than ever, according to a person who saw it.

After years of delays, rewrites, and moving to a different studio in 2019, Netflix picked it up and the long-awaited sequel is now something that mainstream audiences might have a major interest in seeing.

‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ is directed by Australian director Mark Molloy and stars Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ahston, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.

Here’s the synopsis:

Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills once more after receiving a phone call from an old friend warning that his estranged daughter Jane might be in danger. Quickly making new enemies as he teams up with Jane and her ex, Detective Bobby Tapia, Axel finds himself caught up in a conspiracy stretching between deadly cartels, even the Beverly Hills Police.

The film started its production on August 29th, 2022 and wrapped on October 31st, 2022. According to a mid-year report from The Ankler, it wasn’t supposed be released until 2024.
