Paramount CEO Says They Will No Longer Produce “Original” Animation, Just IP Stuff

In an interview published in Variety, Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins says he’s going to fix the company’s flailing Paramount Animation division by striking down on original content.

Paramount is about to release “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”, which I hear is good, as it might become the most successful release ever from Paramount Animation.

Paramount Animation film launched in 2011 and has been in a dire state ever since, the division has produced failure after failure such as “Wonder Park”, “Sherlock Gnomes”, “Rumble” and “Monster Trucks.” They did produce Duke Johnson’s critically-acclaimed “Anomalisa,” but that one was a one-off.

Regardless, Robbins is now hooked on TMNT. “It’s not about Disney and Pixar anymore,” he tells Variety. Rather, Robbins claims that “people are looking for animated movies that are irreverent and have a comedic point of view.”

With that being said, Robbins is saying that Paramount will no longer produce original animated content because it’s not worth the investment.

We’re not going to release an expensive original animated movie and just pray people will come

Robbins is now hooked on making Nickelodeon IP such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”, “Spongebob,”, “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie”, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” films and “Paw Patrol” movie.
