TIFF to Announce Some of its Lineup Next Wednesday

June 23, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

The 48th Toronto International Film Festival is set to take place from September 7 – 17, 2023. IndieWire’s Anne Thompson spoke to festival head Cameron Bailey about the upcoming edition.

It turns out the first teaser programming announcement will be happening next Wednesday, June 28, to be followed by the release of the TIFF gala and special presentations selections on July 19. So, we suspect a big world premiere will be announced on Wednesday, a film probably not going to Venice and Telluride.

Around this time last year, TIFF had announced Rian Johnson’s ‘Glass Onion’ as a world premiere. It was one of big films Toronto had snatched up for that year’s edition, the others included Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans,” Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King.”

There is a lot of speculation as to what could possibly show up at this year’s event. We are looking at a fall festival season that will include new films from Michael Mann, Alexander Payne, Emerald Fennell, Sofia Coppola, Richard Linklater, Andrew Haigh Luca Guadagnino, Bradley Cooper, and Pablo Larrain. Any, or all, of these could go to TIFF.
