Warner Bros Looking to Acquire Nancy Meyers’ $150 Million Rom-Com

March 16, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

The $150 million Nancy Meyers Rom-Com might have found a new buyer and it’s none other than David Sazlav’s Warner Bros.

Can you imagine that? Warner has been cost-cutting left and right, even scrapping already-finished films, and then deciding to invest on a $150 million romantic comedy.

This latest news is quite the twist. I didn’t believe any studio would dare take on such a pricey project, but Warners clearly sees some potential. If the deal does come together, the film is expected to receive a full theatrical release.

Meyers' first film in almost ten years had been set up at Netflix for over a year now, but both parties could not come to an agreement on the budget. Meyers wanted $150 million, Netflix stood its ground at $130 million.

The film had Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson rumored to star. It was set to become the most expensive romantic-comedy of all time. Don’t ask why Meyers needed that much money, nobody can figure it out.

The project is semi-autobiographical as it parallels Meyers’ own life. She and fellow writer-producer Charles Shyer had a longtime romantic and professional pairing, working on films such as “Private Benjamin”, “Baby Boom”, “The Parent Trap” and “Father of the Bride”.

Meyers was a very hot commodity in the early aughts with a crowd-pleasing formula that resulted in “What Women Want,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “The Holiday,” “It’s Complicated” and “The Intern.”
