Yorgos Lanthimos Says He’s Already Working With Emma Stone On His Next Film

December 21, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Yorgos Lanthimos has been a very busy man. He already has the critically praised “Poor Things,” set to expand in 800 theaters tomorrow. Then there’s “Kind of Kindness,” also starring Emma Stone, which will launch in 2024.

It does look as though more Stone/Lanthimos will be coming our way in the near future. In an interview with the Little Gold Men podcast (via The Playlist), Lanthimos teased that he’s been talking to Stone about working together again on his next project.

“I mean, yeah. After we finish one, we discuss the next one,” Lanthimos said. “So we’ve shot this feature film in New Orleans [‘Kind Of Kindness’] which we are now editing and ‘Poor Things’ is out now and yeah, we’re discussing about doing something together again [after that].”

If this project does indeed come to fruition then it would be the fifth straight film Lanthimos has made with Stone, and that’s counting their recent NYFF-premiered short film, “Bleat.”

So, what could this next project be? My money’s on their remake of the South Korean film “Save the Green Planet!”, which I had posted intel on a few weeks ago.

It could also be any of the other projects that Lanthimos has been developing these last few years, which include adaptations of Richard Brautigan’s Hawkline Monster (starring Stone) and Jim Thompson’s “Pop. 1280.” All of these are possibilities, although Thompson’s story doesn’t really seem to have a juicy role for Stone.

For the time being, we can expect “Kind of Kindness” to either premiere at Cannes or Venice next year. The film was actually shot while “Poor Things” was in its final stages of VFX adjustments. The post-production work took so long that Lanthimos decided to shoot another film. The cast is mostly composed of actors from “Poor Things,” Stone, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, and the addition of Jesse Plemons.
