‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Delayed to Summer 2025

October 23, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

The delays keep on coming.

Paramount Pictures has moved “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” from its original date (June 28, 2024) to May 23, 2025. Delayed by a full year … THR adds that it’s not going to be keeping that title either. it’ll be renamed.

Tom Cruise was shooting ‘Part Two’ in South Africa and Australia, but production was halted in July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

In the July issue of Empire, director Christopher McQuarrie addressed what he called the “unrelenting” string of delays that have hit production of the last two films in this action franchise.

McQuarrie confirmed that only 40% of ‘Part Two’ had been shot. ‘Part Two’ began shooting on March 24, 2022. It’s been 15 months, and they’ve only shot 40% of it … With the strike still ongoing, there’s no current set date to restart production.

The first ’Dead Reckoning’ ended on a cliffhanger. The plan was to have both films serve as a sendoff for Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. This is an ambitious undertaking and I really hope it was worth all of the time, effort and money — especially since ‘Part One’ vastly underperformed at the domestic box-office this past summer. The latest numbers have Paramount losing close to $100 million on the movie.

Of note, Paramount also moved “A Quiet Place: Day One,” a prequel to the post-apocalyptic hit, from its original March 8, 2024 slot to now a June 28, 2024 date. The film seems to be ready, it recently test-screened to positive notices.
