WoR Readers Poll: ‘TÁR’ Tops Your Picks For Best of 2022

January 2, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

I didn’t expect over 250 personal top ten lists to be submitted. So, thanks for not only participating in this our first annual readers poll of the best films of 2022, but also for the immense support over the last year.

Todd Field’s “TÁR” seems to be the critical darling this year, so it’s not that surprising to see it top this poll. Ditto Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” another critically championed film. Also, Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” seems to be really loved over here — taste!

Some of the more surprising inclusions included three films in the top 20 that received a bad rep from critics: “Blonde” (#9), “Babylon” (#10) and “Bardo” (#17). A critical reappraisal could occur for some, or all, of these in the coming years.

RESULTS:

1) TAR (Todd Field) — 75 votes
2) The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh) — 67
3) Top Gun: Maverick (Joseph Kosinski) — 56
4) The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg) — 47
5) Triangle of Sadness (Ruben Ostlund) — 47
6) Aftersun (Charlotte Wells) — 44
7) Everything Everywhere All At Once (The Daniels) — 42
7) Nope (Jordan Peele) — 42
8) The Northman (Robert Eggers) — 41
9) Blonde (Andrew Dominik) — 40
10) Babylon (Damien Chazelle) — 37

11) Decision to Leave (Park Chan Wook) — 36
12) Bones and All (Luca Guadagnino) — 30
13) The Batman (Matt Reeves) — 29
14) Glass Onion (Rian Johnson) — 27
14) Avatar: The Way of Water (James Cameron) — 27
15) Elvis (Baz Luhrmann) — 25
16) Crimes of the Future (David Cronenberg) — 22
17) Bardo (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu) — 20
17) Pearl (Ti West) — 20
18) All Quiet on the Western Front (Edward Berger) — 19
19) Armageddon Time (James Gray) — 17
20) Barbarian (Zach Cregger) — 16
