‘TÁR’ Wins National Society of Film Critics [Updated]

January 7, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

EARLIER: The National Society of Film Critics (NSFC) is an American film critic organization, known for its “highbrow” tastes, and its annual awards are one of the most prestigious film critics awards in the United States. They are currently announcing their winners live.

The society was co-founded by Joe Morgenstern and Pauline Kael in 1966. Funnily enough, the raison d’être for the group was in originally to counteract the influence of New York Times critic Bosley Crowther — who was, by far, the most read film critic in the US from 1940-1967.

I’m hearing a lot of rumblings that Todd Field’s “TÁR” will probably be given the Best Film award by the NSFC, I’d be shocked if it was any other film.
