Razzies: ‘Blonde’ Leads With 8 Nominations, Including Worst Picture and Worst Director

January 22, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

The Razzies are a total joke of an awards show. The nominees are determined by members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation. All you have to do to join the voting body is pay a fee ranging from $40 (for two people) to $500 (lifetime membership). You don’t even need to have seen all the movies to vote.

So, unidentified voters, with unknown qualifications, have the power to take down any movie, actor and actress they dislike. Remember, this is the same group that infamously nominated Stanley Kubrick as 1980’s Worst Director for “The Shining.” They also nominated Brian De Palma for “Scarface” and Ennio Morricone for “The Thing” score.

Razzie 2023 voting nominees were announced this morning and they’ve decided to nominate “Blonde” for Worst Picture and Andrew Dominik for Worst Director.

Critics were inevitably going to be split on “Blonde.” However, some of them also had their knives out against Dominik for various reasons, one of which is based on the controversial interviews he’s been giving to promote the film, the other being his utter refusal to portray Marilyn Monroe as a symbol of female empowerment in “Blonde.”

I quite liked “Blonde” when I saw it in September. It was bold, messy, surreal, passionate and utterly fascinating. A lot of our readers fell hard for it as well.

In case you’re wondering, this year’s 5 Worst Picture nominees are“Blonde,” The Bubble,” “Disney’s Pinocchio,” “Good Mourning,” “The King's Daughter” and “Morbius.”

Worst Director nominees are Andrew Dominik (“Blonde”), Judd Apatow (“The Bubble”), Machine Gun Kelly (“Good Mourning”), Daniel Espinosa (“Morbius”) and Robert Zemeckis (“Disney Pinocchio”).
