Telluride Lineup Keeps Growing …

August 9, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Apologies for the lack of posts today. I’ve been working hard these last few hours on having a studio set up an East Coast screening this week for a MAJOR awards player being released in the fall. I can’t say more, but there will eventually be an update about this …

I’ve already lauded the curation of Julie Huntsinger’s Telluride Film Festival, it’s almost second-to-none to the point of being a major precursor for potential quality of the fall films.

If you want a good idea of what top-tier films to expect this fall season then what Telluride head Huntsinger and her team select is the way to go. With the knowledge of today’s premiere statuses for the NYFF films, one can now get a clearer picture of what will show up at the Telluride Film Festival.

So far, around 18 films are very likely to show up:

Tar (Field)
The Wonder (Leilo)
Bones and All (Guadagnino)
Bardo (Inarritu)
Empire of Light (Mendes)
Women Talking (Polley)
All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (Poitras)
The Pale Blue Eye (Cooper)
Armageddon Time (Gray)
One Fine Morning (Hansen-Løve)
Holy Spider (Abbasi)
Decision to Leave (Park)
Aftersun (Wells)
Good Night Oppy (White)
A Compassionate Spy
Close (Dhont)
The US and the Holocaust (Burns)
Broker (Kore-eda)

Unconfirmed possibilities:

Living (Hermanus)
The Forger (Peren)
Tuesday (Oniunas-Pusic)
The Fire Within (Herzog)
Dreamin' Wild (Pohlad)
March on Rome (Cousins)
Argentina 1985 (Mitre)

NOT going to Telluride: “White Noise,” “The Son,” “The Fabelmans,” “Blonde,” “The Whale,” “Master Gardener,” “The Eternal Daughter,” and “The Banshees of Inisherin”

NOT going to TIFF: “White Noise,” “Master Gardener,” “Bardo,” “Bones & All” and (maybe) “Blonde.”

In regards to “Tar” potentially going to TIFF, as we speak I’m emailing around about its potential Toronto status. If “Tar” does end up in Toronto then it could be the only film of the fall festival season to do all four of the majors (TIFF/Venice/NYFF/Telluride). The only other title to potentially produce this feat could be Laura Poitras’ opioid doc “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.”

As always, Michael Patterson’s Telluride prediction blog will probably be all over this NYFF anouncement tomorrow.
