Oscars: Press/Media Will Continue Pushing For Gender-Neutral Categories …

August 25, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

A THR article, penned by Ethan Vlessing, reinforces that the Emmys and the Oscars have yet to follow the lead of other awards shows in adopting gender-neutral categories.

Canada’s national film and TV awards is following the lead of the Grammys and the MTV Movie & TV Awards in moving to non-gender performance categories for more diversity on-screen, with the Emmys and the Oscars yet to follow suit.

A reader by the name of Michael …

“How dystopian is that? At this point, I think it should go without saying that most film journalists (not you; you're great) are malicious actors who want to prod and coerce major institutions into adopting their weirdo agenda. Of course, ideology trumps everything, so even if moving to gender-neutral categories ends up making the Oscars even more unpopular, they'll almost certainly end up doing it. But what do you think?”

What do I think? Sooner or later, this kind of gender ideology will infect the Oscars. It’s not a matter of if but when. The media will just be the relentless pursuers of this issue until it gets adopted. That’s the sad truth. And, know what? It won’t matter because by then the Oscars will be in single-digit ratings, 95% of the population won’t care about the winners and politicized films they nominate. That is where we’re headed.

Sooner or later we’ll have to rely even more on non-American movies to get our endorphin-rushed bout of cinematic nirvana. We’re already kinda there anyways. American culture has been toxified by ill-meaning purists, and that tends to result into bland art.
