‘Blonde’ Trailer Gives Off Eerie Vibes, But What’s Up With That Accent?

July 28, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Here is the full trailer for Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” which has leaked earlier than expected. The release date seems to have changed as well, it goes from September 23rd to now a September 28th launch on Netflix.

The visuals look great, but Ana de Armas is struggling with that American accent. That will be a bothersome qualm for the purists that wanted a 100% authentic feeling biopic.

The Cuba-born actress has mentioned in interviews that she spent 9 months working on this accent. And yet, there were rumors, dating back to early last year, that they were thinking of dubbing some of her dialogue. Now we know why.

I did find much of the trailer to be quite eerie. The accent conundrum was probably very hard to avoid since they decided to cast a Latina playing an American icon — It didn’t bother me that much.

One thing’s for sure, this won’t be your typical Marilyn Monroe biopic, it’s an NC-17 film directed Andrew Dominik. Chayse Irvin’s smoky cinematography definitely gives off a vibe, but wouldn’t it have been better to just shoot the whole thing in monochrome?
