New David Lynch to World Premiere at Cannes?

April 7, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Ever since posting this piece, I’ve been sending emails, having back-and-forths with people, and I am utterly convinced David Lynch will world premiere a FEATURE-LENGTH MOVIE at this May’s 75th Cannes Film Festival. Exciting.

BFI’s Kaleem Aftab tweeted this morning …

“There is going to be a movie at Cannes from one of the best American directors in history! He made two of my all time favourite movies (and we can argue all night over others) and fave TV series. This movie has been kept well under wraps... some even doubt it exists!”

What a tease. Just when we thought there wouldn’t be a bombshell surprise, this tweet shows up. Let the speculation begin …

David Fincher’s “The Killer”? David Lynch’s “Wisteria”? Spike Lee’s Viagra musical? I’m leaning heavily towards Lynch who has, in the past, completed films without the industry even knowing they were being shot. This would be an immense gift for Fremaux and Cannes’ 75th.

It’s all purely speculative, but we’ll know the full lineup when it is announced next Thursday.
