David Fincher’s ‘The Killer’ Set to Wrap Filming in Chicago; 2022 Release?

March 8, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Filming for David Fincher’s “The Killer” is wrapping up its Chicago shoot in around two weeks time.

The question now remains whether this this be an end of 2022 release. Fincher has 9 months to edit the damn thing, but we all know he takes an obsessively lengthy time in the editing room. My bet is the film skips the fall festivals and get released in November. That’s my hunch.

Fincher seems to love shooting his films in the dead of winter. Much like “The Killer,” previous films such as “Gone Girl,” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” started in November/December and wrapped up around the same time only to be released the following November/December.

A recap about “The Killer”:

Just a few months after the release of “Mank,” it was announced that Fincher was again teaming up with Netflix for a movie. This time it was “The Killer,” an adaptation of Alexis Nolent’s graphic novel series. ”Seven” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker is adapting Nolent’s novels and Michael Fassbender was cast as the lead.

Deadline: “The graphic novel series followed a cold-blooded assassin who begins to have a psychological crisis in a world with no moral compass.”

Hollywood Reporter: “[Fassbender] would star as an assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience, even as his clients continue to demand his skills.”“The Killer” has been a passion project for Fincher since at least 2007. The fact that Fincher is going back to work so quickly after “Mank” is a surprise. He is known to meticulously wait, and wait, and wait for his next project. Not to mention has had quite a few fall by wayside these last few years, including a “World War Z” sequel.
