Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ Will Skip Cannes and Premiere at Venice Instead

March 4, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

It doesn’t look as though Wes Anderson will be bringing a movie to Cannes for the second year in a row.

Last July, Anderson premiered “The French Dispatch” at Cannes, the film was met with mixed reviews before faring better with American critics in the fall. Anderson probably didn’t want to deal, for the second year in a row, with the tough critics at Cannes. It’s understandable that he is now eyeing a Venice Film Festival debut for his latest concoction, “Asteroid City.”

The highly anticipated film stars Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston and Jeffrey Wright. Anderson shot “Asteroid City” in Spain last August. Plot details have been kept very hush-hush, but we do know that the film is said to take place in Arizona and not Spain.
