‘West Side Story’ On Disney Plus, March 2nd

February 9, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

We pride ourselves in delivering tomorrow’s news today. Another, of the many, examples is this morning’s press release that “West Side Story” will be available digitally on March 2nd.

I had reported during the first week of January that Disney was just waiting for the Oscar noms to be announced before delivering a late February date for Disney Plus. It seems they pushed it back a week or two, making it available three weeks before the Oscar ceremony gets televised.

As I wrote on 01.05.22:

“The film needs the momentum boost and is banking on a slew of Oscar nominations to kickstart its campaign leading to a possible Best Picture prize. It’s barely made $30 million at the domestic box-office on a budget of $100 million (not counting marketing costs).”

“The 2022 Oscar nominations will be announced on February 8, 2022. Look for “West Side Story” to be available a few days after that. It badly needs to build up buzz amongst audiences, critical acclaim doesn’t seem to be enough to push it to Oscar gold.”
