Lena Dunham’s Sundance Went Terribly Wrong

January 28, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Lena Dunham did not have a good Sundance.

Despite her “Sharp Stick” being one of the most anticipated world premieres of the fest, it ended up being one of the worst reviewed titles as well.

Even worse, she’s now being accused of insensitivity in regards to the lead protagonist in the film, a young woman who many claim is supposed to be autistic. Dunham is being criticized by an autism activist over what the person is calling a “neurodivergent portrayal.”

I won’t go deeper than that with this nonsense, but, all of this to say, Dunham is having a bad start to the year and it could get worse. She has another film being released in 2022, this one titled “Catherine, Called Birdy” and it’s supposed to be horrendous. The test screenings last year went terribly and the film is currently in post-production limbo.
