Vin Diesel Has Starred in 10% of All Movies Ever to Surpass the $1 Billion Dollar Mark at thVe B.O.

March 26, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

Vin Diesel’s godawful “Bloodshot” has been released on VOD. The movie failed at the box-office, raking in $9.2 million domestically in its opening weekend and $24.3 million worldwide. That was good enough for second place at the box office, but way under the film’s reported $45 million budget.

If anything, “Bloodshot proved that Vin Diesel wasn’t immune to failing at the box-office. After all, we expect an actor of his stature to deposit numbers equal to his biggest hits such as ”xXx,” “Fast & Furious,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Avengers: Endgame,” and “Riddick.”

As Forbes recently put it, “over the course of his 22-year career, Diesel starred in four of the 46 movies to ever eclipse $1 billion worldwide: “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Fate of the Furious and Furious 7.” And five more of his movies made $500 million on the global market: “Fast Five,” “Fast & Furious 6,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”

“Prior to Bloodshot, Diesel had a starring role in 24 different films dating back to 1998. Between his theatrical debut and 2020, Diesel’s two dozen projects have generated $3.873 billion domestically, which comes out to an average of $161.4 million per film. On average, those films have seen a $63.2 million opening weekend.”

Domestically, a total of 14 Diesel projects have pushed past the $100 million mark.

Prior to “Bloodshot,” there weren’t many Diesel vehicles (see what I did there) that failed at the box-office. You can count them in one hand; 2016’s “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk“ made just $1.7 million in the United States and $31 million worldwide, 2008’s “Babylon A.D.” made just $23 million domestically,

Diesel’s next few movies will, however, re-emerge his box-office dominance as he has “F9,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” “Avatar 2” and “The Last Witch Hunter 2” lined up and ready to go.
