Universal's ‘The Hunt': Controversial Movie Satirizing Killing of ‘Deplorables' Being Released March 13th [Trailer]

February 11, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

If you remember, the September 27th, 2019 theatrical release for Universal and Blumhouse movie “The Hunt” had been canceled due to controversial ads, featuring rich elitists hunting and killing poor “deplorable” people for sport. The movie drew criticism last fall from President Trump and right-wing media outlets. It also didn’t help that such a divisive and violent movie was being released as America was healing from two back-to-back mass shooting tragedies.

According to Variety, insiders said the studio came to the decision alongside the filmmakers and that they all agreed to pull the plug on “The Hunt,” but that it would eventually be released. Well, today we got not only a new release date (March 13th) but also a brand new trailer. With the killing of “deplorables” story still intact, controversy is sure to arise again.

Will there ever be a “right time” to release “The Hunt”? Blum seems to think so. In fact, going by the movie's new social media campaign with the "#DecideForYourself" hashtag, controversy is what Universal hopes will sell “The Hunt” to audiences. Take a look at the trailer and poster below and give us your own opinion on this controversial movie.
