Oscar Contender ‘Pieces of a Woman' Will Be Released on Netflix January 7th, 2021

November 6, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

There was good news today regarding the Vanessa Kirby-starring “Pieces of a Woman,” it has just been dated by Netflix to be released in select theaters on December 30th, and will be available via streaming on January 7th, 2021. I saw this fantastic movie at this past September’s digital edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, Kirby is almost guaranteed an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, here’s a snippet from my review:

“For 128 minutes, Vanessa Kirby has you hooked to her every move in Kornel Mundruczo’s “Pieces of a Woman.” As Martha, a high-powered executive who loses her child during a harrowing home birth, Kirby mesmerizes by showcasing the human frailty and devastation that happens when tragedy comes knocking at her door. Her acting tour-de-force reminded me of Gena Rowlands’ masterful work in John Cassavetes’ 1974 classic, “Woman Under the Influence.”

Director Mundruczó’s first English-language film is based on a horribly tragic personal experience. Starring Kirby and Shia LaBeouf as a grieving couple whose lives are thrown into tragedy after a disastrous homebirth. This was supposed to premiere in competition at this year’s canceled Cannes Film Festival, but eventually wound up screening at the Venice Film Festival and TIFF.
