‘Hillbilly Elegy’: White People Hardships in the Appalachian Mountains [Trailer]

Ron Howard directs this southern gothic fable via Vanessa Taylor’s screenplay about a law student grappling with her family history and the American dream. It’s always been hit-and-miss with Howard (“Cinderella Man,” “Apollo 13,” “A Beautiful Mind”), but the source material here is strong and the film’s cast has Amy Adams and Glenn Close as the co-leads. Enough said.

The trailer has just been revealed and with a spanking new premiere date (Netflix, 11.24), this is ready and primed for Oscar. I think, Solely based on the footage alone, this is a cinematic soap opera through and through about domestic family values. No men on sight here, just Glenn Close‘s bumblefuck mother and Amy Adams‘ addict daughter

Based on the memoir by J.D. Vance, the film chronicles his volatile relationship with his mother Bev (Adams) and how he was raised by his resilient grandmother Mamaw (Close). “Hillbilly Elegy” is in select theaters and on Netflix, November 24. Watch the first trailer below.
