Directors Guild Nominations 2019: Bradley Cooper, Alfonso Cuaron, Spike Lee, Peter Farrely, Adam McKay

The Directors Guild of America gave us more clues today as to what to expect come Oscar nomination time. The 2018 DGA nominations went to five filmmakers that are now almost certain to have their films nominated for Best Picture: Alfonso Cuaron for “Roma,” ” Bradley Cooper for “A Star is Born,” Peter Farrelly for “Green Book,” Spike Lee for “BlacKkKlansman,” and Adam McKay for “Vice.”

Of course, despite almost certainly getting nominated for Best Picture, Golden Globe-winner “Bohemian Rhapsody” did not nab a DGA nod because, well, they just can't honor Bryan Singer, unless they want a social media meltdown to happen.

Consider me shocked that Yorgos Lanthimos’ incredibly delectable work in “The Favourite,” wasn't nominated; Other snubs include Barry Jenkins for “If Beale Street Could Talk,”and Ryan Coogler’s direction in “Black Panther.”

The 17,000 DGA directors eligibile to vote for the nominees, and award-winners, tend to parallel the eventual Oscar winner -- since 1948, only seven DGA winners have not gone on to win the Best Director Oscar.
