Zach Cregger's “Resident Evil” landed roughly $9M in Thursday previews with excellent early audience reaction, and the weekend projection has climbed to $65M — possibly higher.
Pitt and Ayer disagreed so much on the tone of the film that each prepared separate versions. Ayer's "broader cut" tested better, but Pitt's more “esoteric” version drew the support of producer Damien Chazelle .
Snyder has mentioned in the past how “Sucker Punch “never really got finished correctly,” and that it was “not really the correct cut.” The extra footage is actually already shot.
The budget for "Resident Evil" was $75M, and the film is supposed to have a $90M+ worldwide weekend. Cregger was paid $20M to direct the movie. Money well spent.
