The origin story of the comic worlds most famous villain, bowed to an enormous $93.5M (a figure which could rise when actuals are released tomorrow) and thus lifted it above the 93.8M “Justice League” made during its bow in 2017. Not only did the Venice golden lion winning film have the highest opening in October history (after last years Venom), but it also goes down as the fourth-highest total for an R rated film.

Basically, Banderas was playing Almodóvar. The result is a meta-filled movie, but splattered with subtle hints about Almodovar’s personal life all over its sumptuously-lit frames.

That being said, one cannot see a more thorough and invigorating dissection of the classic being released than “Memory: The Origins of Alien,” Alexandre O. Philippe’s feature-length analysis of the DNA that molded “Alien” into the horror masterpiece that it is known as today.
We’re just 24 days away from its release, yet there doesn’t seem to be much excitement building around this film. The marketing has not worked.
