James Gunn is ‘Saddened' by Scorsese's Anti-Marvel Sentiments

October 4, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Martin Scorsese’s recent anti-Marvel comments have irked “Guardians of the Galaxy” writer-director James Gunn to no ends. Gunn took to social media to say just how upset he was about Scorsese’s comments claiming that Marvel movies should not be considered cinema:

“Martin Scorsese is one of my five favorite living filmmakers,” Gunn responded on Twitter. “I was outraged when people picketed ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ without having seen the film. I’m saddened that he’s now judging my films in the same way. That said, I will always love Scorsese, be grateful for his contribution to cinema, and can’t wait to see ‘The Irishman.'”

This is where I use the sad emoji to express my artificial sympathy for Gunn who, alongside many young and talented filmmakers, has sold his artistic soul to Marvel and the Disney monopoly over the last decade. The corporatist mindstate is such a brainwash that Gunn actually thinks he’s making art.
