Infinity Pool Gets Rare C- CinemaScore; What Did You Think of Brandon Cronenberg’s Film?

January 28, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Have readers seen Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool”? It’s now out in theaters. I saw the NC-17 version at Sundance and will probably watch the R-rated theatrical version this coming week.

There was no way mainstream America was going to warm up to Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool.” I’m already surprised it received this wide of a release.

And so, is it that shocking to learn that “Infinity Pool” has received a C- CinemaScore this weekend? Of course not. We didn’t expect anything else. The basic users who rate on Rotten Tomatoes also gave it a 52% approval. Again, not surprising. Whereas, on IMDB “Infinity Pool” has a solid 6.9 and 3.5/5 on Letterboxd.

Now that “Infinity Pool” is out, what did you think? It was a highly anticipated film for many of our readers, especially since Cronenberg’s last film was the very well-received “Possessor.”

I reviewed “Infinity Pool” earlier in the week and was mixed on it. I loved its don’t-give-a-damn style, ditto Mia Goth’s bats**t crazy performance. However, it struck me as a little too thin in substance, at least compared to his last film “Possessor.” As mentioned, I’ll probably watch it again in a few days.

“Infinity Pool” is Cronenberg Junior’s third film. I doubt it’ll make much money this weekend, but what do we care? There should be more films like it greenlit and released by an American studio. Like his other films, it’s a fearless, no-holds-barred vision that no cinephile worth his grit would dare miss.
