Pedro Almodóvar’s Next Film is in English, Set in NYC and Concerns Two Women — Set to Shoot in October

February 18, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

It’s Goya Awards week in Spain, and for the occasion Pedro Almodóvar appeared on TVE (Spanish public broadcast) for a special half hour interview.

Almodóvar obviously spoke about his upcoming short film with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, but, more peculiarly, about his next film which will be his first full length feature in English.

In the interview, Almodóvar says this new film takes place in New York and is about two female friends. So, we’re probably going to be getting two English language actresses up for roles. Cate Blanchett rumors can now commence.

Pre-production on this new film starts this month with shooting said to begin in October. Two weeks ago, Almodóvar had confirmed to a Spanish outlet that he had a new project lined up for the fall.

It’s definitely not, what was supposed to be his English feature-length debut, “A Manual for Cleaning Women.” If you remember, Almodóvar dropped out of that Cate Blanchett starting project last fall. Maybe she could be in this one. Both have been very adamant in working together for well over a decade now.

Almodóvar also mentioned how he’s ready to shoot another film in Spanish, after the New York one, titled "Bitter Christmas," about a woman abandoned by her partner during Christmas time. So, the 73-year-old filmmaker will likely be very busy in the next few years.

As mentioned, Almodóvar has a 30-minute short film titled “Strange Way of Life,” a Western starring Hawke and Pascal that will premiere at Cannes in May. It’s already been shot and ready to go.
