Chris Rock Says Only Reason He Saw ‘Emancipation’ Was to “Watch Will Smith Get Whipped”

March 4, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

A year ago, Chris Rock became part of Oscar infamy when Will Smith slapped him, hard, on live television.

Rock has been testing out material for his upcoming live Netflix special, dropping today – including jokes about slapper Will Smith.

The standup special is called “Selective Outrage”. In one of the preparation performances, he told crowds at a packed out theatre that he “rooted for Will Smith” his whole life, according to the New York Post.

However, he went on to make a biting joke about how he watched Smith’s recent Apple TV slavery epic for one particular reason:

"The other day, I watched “Emancipation” just so I could watch him getting whipped."

Rock will be performing tonight live from Baltimore for what is rumored to be a 90 minute set. Netflix will be broadcasting the whole thing starting at 10pm.

It seems as though he’s had the last laugh since his standup career has been on the ups ever since the slap. The shows on his tour have been sold out, but he’s refused to talk or even joke about the Smith assault. Tonight that will change.
