During an appearance on the “On Film… With Kevin McCarthy” podcast, Elliott Page revealed the lack of being offered any new roles, despite starring in “The Odyssey.” Page admits currently having no movies lined up.
When asked if “The Odyssey” had led to “getting a zillion calls” for new roles, the Oscar nominee revealed that work has been slow, despite now being able to “do some of my best work.”
No, Kevin, I’m not [getting any calls]. So, if someone wants to call me […] I’d really love to do, ideally, good work. That’s what I’d love to do […] I feel now, ’cause that’s removed and I don’t have to deal with that in my acting in my performances, I’m like, ‘I feel like I could do some of my best work now.’
When Page’s casting in “The Odyssey” was announced, backlash ensued. A false rumor began spreading that Page had been cast as Achilles, only for it to later be confirmed that the role was Sinon, the cousin of Odysseus (Matt Damon). Still, much like Lupita Nyong, Page’s casting had been caught up in the culture wars.
Page publicly came out as transgender in 2020, but privately transitioned in 2017/2018. One look at Page’s filmography, and there is indeed a major gap starting in 2017, with the actor having starred in only two films over the last eight years: “Close to You” and “The Odyssey.” Page did, however, have the lead role in the 2019 Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy,” which was eventually canceled by the streamer.
