Jonah Hill's ‘Cut Off' Heads Into Reshoots After Being Deemed “Unwatchable” and “Unreleasable”

Jonah Hill, coming off the miserable reviews for this year's Apple-produced movie “Outcome,” now has yet another film destined for a long delay. This time, it's “Cut Off,” his third directorial effort, which was supposed to hit theaters this July but was then removed from the Warner Bros. release calendar and is now undated.

Now it looks like “Cut Off” is in the middle of reshoots in LA. The main stars are on set, including Hill, Kristen Wiig, and Bette Midler. So this film is far from done; if anything, they are trying to save it from oblivion.

There had been zero promotion for “Cut Off,” which completed production in September 2025. Jennifer Lawrence was originally attached to lead the film but was later replaced by Wiig. Test screenings reportedly scored poorly, with one attendee calling it “unwatchable.” Puck's Matt Belloni took it a step further, reporting that the studio believes “Cut Off” is “unreleasable.” He hinted that the fate of Hill's movie may only be determined after the Warner Bros.-Paramount deal is completed.

In “Cut Off,” Hill and Wiig play wealthy siblings who are suddenly cut off from their parents' financial support and, for the first time, are forced to navigate adult life on their own. Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, Adriana Barraza, Camila Cabello, and Chelsea Peretti round out the cast.

Hill stepped back from acting around 2022, when he announced he would no longer promote his films because of longstanding anxiety and wanted to prioritize his mental health. He later shifted his focus to directing rather than taking new acting roles. The result was “Outcome,” a critically panned Hollywood cancel-culture satire starring Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz.

It now appears his follow-up isn't faring any better, as “Cut Off” will remain unseen for a while. This film will soon be David Ellison's problem.
