‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’ Trailer: Mahershala Ali Stars in Bassam Tariq’s Religious Hitman Thriller

Here’s the trailer for “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother,” only the second-best title of 2026 after “Bucking Fastard,” and a film I’ve been hearing good things about.

There’s an interesting backstory to this film: while director Bassam Tariq and Mahershala Ali’s long-in-development “Blade” movie stalled, they decided to make this instead—a religious hitman thriller.

Also starring John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Giancarlo Esposito, the film will have its world premiere at TIFF premiere and arrive in theaters on September 25.

Here’s the synopsis: “Mahershala Ali stars as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman who struggles to balance work, faith and fatherhood. When his wife dies, he embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, confronting the forces closing in around him – and the beliefs threatening to unravel within.”

Tariq and Ali’s professional relationship began through Marvel’s “Blade.” Ali was cast as the titular vampire hunter in 2019, and Tariq was hired to direct the film in 2021. They worked together during the troubled development, but Tariq left the director’s chair in 2022 amid continuing production-schedule changes, while Ali remained attached to star.  Rather than ending their collaboration, however, the “Blade” experience ultimately led to this new partnership.

Ali has described the new film as a much better creative fit and said that the collapse of “Blade” gave Tariq the time and energy to develop the original project and bring it back to him.

Tariq’s directorial career began with his feature-film debut “Mogul Mowgli” (2020), starring Riz Ahmed. “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother” will be his sophomore effort.
