What are the odds this turns out to be good? Netflix isn’t giving it an awards-qualifying theatrical release, and the just-released trailer isn’t doing anything for me.
Yes, Jacob Tremblay, of “Room” fame, plays the infamous Unabomber—Ted Kaczynski— or, more specifically, his Harvard days as a gifted math student, tracing the way he was radicalized during his formative years.
By the looks of it, the film will go back and forth between Kaczynski’s Harvard days and the massive FBI manhunt 20 years later. Russell Crowe plays the professor who took Kaczynski under his wing. Meanwhile, Shailene Woodley is the FBI agent trying to piece it all together two decades later.
Janus Metz (“Borg vs. McEnroe”) is directing. The screenplay is by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves—they wrote the “Sleepy Hollow” television series. “Unabomber” will premiere September 25 on Netflix.
I am very curious how Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord” will be greeted this fall — the Palme d’Or-winning film has turned into a culture-war ticking time bomb among critics, who are more split on it than you might think.
