‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Hits $700M+ Domestic in Record Time, Closing in on $2B Worldwide

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” continues to explode at the box office, having now reached $705M domestically and about $1.8 billion worldwide after only two weekends. It is the fastest film ever to reach the $700M domestic milestone.

That puts ‘Brand New Day’ in an extremely exclusive club: just seven movies have ever crossed $700M in North America.

The big question now is whether ‘Brand New Day’ can climb all the way to the domestic record. A $800M domestic total could arrive by this weekend, with Endgame’s $858M potentially within reach shortly afterward.

With strong audience scores, and relatively little summer competition, some are even entertaining the possibility of ‘Brand New Day’ becoming the first $1 billion domestic movie and, in an extreme scenario, the first $3 billion worldwide blockbuster, potentially challenging the current global leader “Avatar” ($2.9B). I’m not so sure about that.

I do think the film will hit $900M domestically, and possibly challenge ‘The Force Awakens.’ The worldwide $1.8 billion figure is also hinting at a 2.7 billion finish. Either way, ‘Brand New Day’ is already performing at a historic level, and its next few weekends will determine just how high Spidey can climb.
