I’ll have a bigger story about this tomorrow morning, especially with the numbers continuing to be updated, but right now it looks like $75M in Thursday previews for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which includes prime shows on Wednesday.
Yes, that $75M tally would shatter the previous previews record held by “Avengers: Endgame,” which had a $60M Thursday in 2019. It won’t even be close. This sets up an opening weekend in the $345M range, probably more, for ‘Brand New Day.
In fact, I would not be surprised at all if ‘Brand New Day’ beats “Avengers: Endgame”’s $365M domestic opening, which remains the all-time best box office opening. Oh, and the worldwide numbers for are even stronger, as it is poised to have a global opening of $800M+ by Sunday evening.
As for the audience exit polling, it’s through-the-roof amazing, with plenty of perfect scores, which means word-of-mouth will only further fuel ticket sales this weekend. An “A” CinemaScore is practically sealed. It’s currently 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Brand New Day” follows the massive success of “No Way Home,” which raked in over $1.9 billion at the global box office in 2021. At this current pace, this latest Spidey will hit the billion-dollar mark by next week. Truly unbelievable, and with no other potential blockbuster left to release this summer, it should have strong legs.
It should be noted that the average price of a movie ticket has increased. In 2019, the average ticket price was $9.25, compared to $11.35 in 2026 — there’s no getting around that factor. Yet, what’s even more impressive about the ‘Brand New Day’ numbers is that the film has no IMAX, as “The Odyssey” still has an exclusive hold on those screens.
Regardless, the film is on track to become the most commercially successful of the decade by the end of its run. These numbers are absolutely jaw-dropping and prove, yet again, that Spider-Man remains the most profitable IP in Hollywood—and it’s not even close.
