Stephen King’s 1996 horror novel “Desperation” is headed for the big screen at Searchlight, with filmmaker duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to direct, according to The InSneider, later echoed by THR.
The project marks the first collaboration between King and Sam Raimi, who will produce alongside his Ghost House Pictures. Ryan Brennan is writing the screenplay, based on a story about stranded travelers battling a possessed, sadistic police officer in a remote desert town.
Lipovsky and Stein became highly sought-after after the success of “Final Destination: Bloodlines” and already have several major projects lined up. Their slate includes the Amblin/Universal adaptation “Long Lost,” writing duties on Chris Columbus’ “Gremlins 3”, and work on Sony’s animated “Venom” movie and “Metal Gear Solid.” These guys don't sleep.
The film arrives amid a major resurgence in adaptations of King’s work. Recent projects have included “It: Welcome to Derry,” “The Long Walk,” “The Life of Chuck,” “The Running Man,” “Salem’s Lot” and “The Monkey.”
