Matt Smith’s reaction to Keanu Reeves watching “Morbius” during a flight has gone viral because it’s absolutely hilarious how self-deprecating Smith is about his own movie.
While making an appearance on the latest episode of Brittany Broski's Royal Court podcast, Smith was told that Reeves had been sighted watching “Morbius” while on a plane, and instead of defending the film, he actually laughed at the idea of Reeves picking “Morbius” as his in-flight movie.
Smith jokingly wondered how Reeves even ended up choosing the aforementioned movie, suggesting he must have been high on Valium, or scrolled through countless titles before landing on it.
“Not f**king Morbius. My God, he must really have gone through the library to be getting to that. He must have been having a moment,” Smith noted.
And when Broski asked him what he watches during flights? “Not f—ing Morbius,” Smith cheekily responded.
“Morbius” has become kind of a punchline, savaged by critics and memed into oblivion. It’s also the same film that was rumored to have had a staggering 11 screenwriters attached at various points in development. Whenever a comic book movie underperforms at the box office, either “Morbius” or “The Marvels” is frequently brought up as a comparison point.
Released in 2022, “Morbius” was directed by Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House,” “Life”), and starred Jared Leto as the Marvel antihero, while Smith played the film’s main antagonist, Milo. The film flopped with a $93M global tally against a $75M budget. It currently sits comfortably at 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.
