Sam Neill, the New Zealand actor known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the “Jurassic Park” films, died earlier this week due to pneumonia. His passing came as a real shock and was described as “sudden and unexpected,” as it came after the actor had become “cancer free” following a 2022 diagnosis of stage 3 blood cancer.
Now, according to Philip Grenz, Neill’s longtime representative, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly, before his passing, Neill “had filmed four projects back-to-back during the past year, all of which will be released within the coming months.”
Indeed, we know of two of those projects; the others have not been announced. Neill completed filming “The Last Resort,” a rom-com from “Miss Congeniality” director Donald Petrie, co-starring Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich. He also has a supporting role in “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,” which is set to be released in March 2027.
When you think of Sam Neill, it’s impossible not to start with his portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in “Jurassic Park.” But his career stretches far beyond one franchise—he was unforgettable in “Event Horizon,” gripping in “Dead Calm,” descending into hysteria in “In the Mouth of Madness,” quietly devastating in “The Piano,” and brilliantly unsettling in “Possession.” He was also a prominent fixture in the popular mob series “Peaky Blinders.”
