James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ Unveils First Look

June 1, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

If you are actually looking forward to this sequel, here’s our first look — above and below — at Lex Luthor in his comics-accurate warsuit in “Superman: Man of Tomorrow.”

James Gunn unveiled the image on social media as he continues production on ‘Man of Tomorrow’ in Atlanta, which began shooting on April 20 and is expected to continue through August.

Gunn has already confirmed that the sequel will see Luthor and Superman forced into an uneasy alliance against a “much bigger threat,” Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). Given the history of both the comics and “Superman: The Animated Series,” it isn’t hard to connect the dots and realize what Gunn is tackling.

Sam McCurdy (“Peacemaker”) is the DP on “Man of Tomorrow,” instead of Henry Braham—who shot Gunn’s last four films (“Superman,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Vol. 3,” and “The Suicide Squad”).

The cast includes David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult—all set to reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. Alongside them are Aaron Pierre, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Matthew Lillard, and Lars Eidinger as Brainiac.

“Superman” fared well for Warner Bros. in 2025, earning positive reviews (83% on Rotten Tomatoes) and pulling in $354M domestically for a $615M global total. I thought the film was underwhelming, but we’ll see if a bigger or smaller audience shows up for this sequel.

“Superman: Man of Tomorrow” is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
