Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Screens Early 2-Hour Cut With Incomplete VFX, Modern Soundtrack

Just a brief update on Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.” The film recently held a test screening of a two-hour cut, though the visual effects were reportedly far from finished, making this a very rough version of the movie. I’m told Gerwig attended the screening herself to gather audience feedback.

The film was originally slated for release in November 2026 before being pushed to February 2027, and based on the state of this cut, it seems unlikely it would have been ready in time for its initial date.

One interesting creative choice: despite the story being set in the 1950s, Gerwig reportedly uses rock music throughout the film. The soundtrack is intentionally anachronistic, echoing the approach Sofia Coppola took in “Marie Antoinette,” where modern music was used to create a contemporary emotional connection with a period setting.
