Here’s Puck’s Matt Belloni, citing Tom Hardy as one of “the most difficult actors in town,” reporting that the actor was just booted off “MobLand,” the highest-rated non-Taylor Sheridan show on Paramount+.
Apparently, Paramount told Hardy he will not be returning for Season 3 after clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, among others, during the recent production of Season 2.
Hardy allegedly created tension behind the scenes by repeatedly arriving late to set, frequently offering unsolicited script notes, and pushing to alter dialogue during filming. Sources also claim he became frustrated that a show originally centered heavily around his character was evolving into more of an ensemble series featuring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.
The reported disagreements allegedly escalated to the point where Butterworth threatened to leave the production altogether.
Hardy has been connected to several reported movie-set controversies over the years. The most famous example occurred during the filming of Mad Max: Fury Road. Co-star Charlize Theron later criticized Hardy for chronic lateness and unpredictable behavior, saying tensions became so severe that a producer was reportedly assigned to mediate between them.
There were also reports of friction during the production of Lawless. Shia LaBeouf claimed in interviews that he and Hardy became physically confrontational while working together, including stories that Hardy was allegedly knocked unconscious during a disagreement. Given that this account came from LaBeouf, it’s hard to know exactly what happened.
Then, of course, there was the notable incident during the filming of The Revenant, where Hardy reportedly clashed creatively at times with director Alejandro González Iñárritu because of the physically punishing environment and demanding schedule.
Hardy is undeniably talented, but he also has a reputation for being a hothead. What’s next for him? He’s supposed to star in director Sean Penn’s next film, which is expected to shoot this summer, though concrete details about the project have yet to emerge.
