Here is the teaser trailer for Resident Evil. What do you think?
The story follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a package delivery driver tasked with transporting a mysterious briefcase to Raccoon City Hospital during a deadly virus outbreak. Abrams plays a slightly off-kilter, druggie type who gets thrown into chaos.
The trailer hints at a snow-set nightmare world, a frenetic narrative taking place in the course of one night, where the only good option is to run.
Coming off Weapons, Sony Pictures paid Zach Cregger $20M to helm this reboot, giving him full creative control to do whatever he wanted with the IP. Dariusz Wolski (“Dark City,” “Sweeney Todd”) is the cinematographer — he’s lensed nine Ridley Scott films since 2012.
There’s been some controversy, at least in the gaming world, about Cregger’s adaptation, which introduces new characters and refrains from being too faithful to the video game. Cregger has even admitted he never watched the earlier 2000s Resident Evil films and has been clear that his version won’t strictly follow the established lore. Instead, he’s cited Evil Dead II as a tonal influence.
This new Resident Evil movie follows the seven previous movies, all critically panned at the time, which grossed over $1.2B worldwide. It’s time to revitalize the zombie genre, and there might not be a better director out there right now to make it happen.
Sony Pictures has set “Resident Evil” for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release.
