‘One Night Only’ Trailer: ‘The Purge’ Meets Rom-Com Where Premarital Sex Is Banned—Except One Night a Year

April 29, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s our first trailer for “One Night Only,” starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro.

The film is essentially a rom-com version of “The Purge,” where premarital sex is outlawed except for one night each year. There’s some potential in that premise, but the trailer isn’t really raising my expectations.

The early draft of Travis Braun’s Black List script “One Night Only” centered on two strangers who are desperately trying to find someone to sleep with during the only night of the year when premarital sex is permitted.

The main issue with this film is that Will Gluck is directing, and save for “Easy A,” I’ve never really liked his films, which include “Friends With Benefits,” “Anyone But You,” “About Last Night,” “Annie,” and (gulp) two “Peter Rabbit” movies

Then again, any film with Monica Barbaro is fine in my books. She’s great and was recently Oscar-nominated for “A Complete Unknown.” As for Turner, long rumored for Bond, he recently starred in A24’s “Eternity,” and has credits that include “Green Room,” “The Boys in the Boat,” “Fantastic Beasts,” and “Masters of the Air.”

You can view the “One Night Only” trailer below. Universal has set the release date for August 7, 2026.
